Roam vs Standby Sep 22 special rates

Invite rental rates for Residential Mini claimants (Tesla North report). Hardware stays a rental — plan for Standby between trips.

    Power pack 25–40 W

    USB-C PD path needs ~100 W brick capability (20 V / 5 A). 12–48 V DC also works. Off-grid: budget Wh from hours-online × draw.

How to pack a Mini trip

Sep 22, 2026: SpaceX widened free Starlink Mini hardware rentals beyond Residential Max — invited Residential customers can claim one kit, keep it on Standby or Roam, and take home internet on the road. PackMini turns that perk into a reusable trip desk.

    1. Count high-speed hours

Cap plans (100 / 300 GB) care about high-speed gigabytes. Maps and chat are cheap; HD streams and 4K are not. After the cap you keep low-speed — fine for mail, rough for video calls.

    2. Budget watts

Mini averages 25–40 W. A 500 Wh power station covers roughly 12–20 hours of dish time before other loads. Car DC or a 100 W USB-C PD brick both work when spec’d correctly.

    3. Clear the sky cone

Phased-array FOV is about 110°. Canyons, valley walls, and dense canopy eat satellites. Raise the kickstand, move to a clearing, or mount on a short pole before you blame the network.

    Methodology

GB totals = Σ (hours/day × GB/hour × people-scale × days) + small idle. People-scale uses √n so two devices are not blindly 2×. Plan suggestion picks the cheapest special-rate band that covers estimated high-speed GB for a 30-day billing window containing the trip (Standby if estimated GB ≈ 0). Power Wh = online hours × midpoint watts. Weather samples come from Open-Meteo (cloud cover) when the network allows — soft-fail only to the nested notes panel and console, never over the 3D stage.

    FAQ

    Is this official Starlink?

No. Independent planning desk. Rates and specs cite public Starlink sheets and Sep 22 reporting; always confirm in your Starlink account before you claim or travel.

    Why save trips locally?

Same campsite loop next month? Reopen the named trip, tweak days, re-export. Share URL encodes the current inputs so a co-pilot can open the same pack.

    What about coverage maps?

We do not scrape private coverage APIs. Use Starlink’s own availability check for addresses; PackMini focuses on data, cost, power, and sky FOV hygiene.
